Apple Update & Library Notifications

Apple’s latest software update, iOS 26, introduces new features, but may affect how library notifications are received.

What this means for your library:

  • Encourage patrons to save our number, 618-685-1008: This ensures calls and texts appear in their main inbox.
  • Set expectations: Remind patrons they may need to check a new “Unknown Senders” tab if they don’t see your messages.

More information about the new features

Screen unknown senders: Text messages from unsaved numbers are placed in a separate “Unknown Senders” inbox. Notifications are silenced until the user marks the sender as “known.” This means patrons who haven’t saved your number may not see your messages right away.

Spam/junk folder for SMS: Apple may route suspicious or promotional texts into a junk folder. While this helps reduce unwanted messages, legitimate bulk or automated notifications, such as library reminders, could be miscategorized.

Improved user controls: Users will be able to more easily manage sender status, moving numbers between “unknown,” “known,” and “blocked.” Once your library’s number is marked as trusted, messages and calls will appear as expected. Until then, visibility may be reduced.
