To enhance patron privacy across our network, base user permissions for all library staff members have been updated. While your daily operational capabilities remain unchanged, your visibility of patron accounts from other library types will now be restricted based on SHARE’s Multitype Borrowing Policy.
Summary of Access Changes
- Public Library Staff: Can view patron accounts from other public libraries. Access to academic and special library patron accounts is now restricted.
- Academic & Special Library Staff: Can view patron accounts across academic and special libraries. Access to public library patron accounts is now restricted.
Note: This update builds upon our previous permission adjustment separating school and public library accounts. As a reminder, within the SHARE multitype consortium, academic, school, and special library cards are not accepted at public libraries without an established intergovernmental agreement or contract. You can review the full Multitype Borrowing Policy for more information.
Required Action by System
- Polaris Leap Users: All staff members using Leap must log in and manually refresh their permissions. To do this, click your username in the top-right corner and select Refresh Permissions (this process takes only a few seconds).
- Polaris Original Users: No action is required; updates will apply automatically.
Please reach out to the SHARE team if you have any questions or experience any issues following this update.
