Need books? Try collection development made easy – SHAREables Book Leasing!
Imagine a steady stream of shelf-ready bestsellers for your patrons each month, reducing patron holds and saving staff time.
SHAREables Book Leasing (formerly McNaughton Book Leasing for SHARE) includes unique packages developed exclusively for SHARE members: a small plan with 5 preselected adult fiction books per month, a large plan with 10 preselected adult fiction books per month, or our *new* premium plan, with a choice to select the titles you want, including the most popular titles or even large print!
This is the first-of-its-kind book leasing program for consortia. The program and its pricing are exclusive to SHARE.
The deadline to sign up for this group purchase is May 29, 2026.
Why participate in SHAREables Book Leasing?
- Reduced Holds: The plans will provide leased copies of the best sellers, which will reduce hold ratios on the top titles for your patrons.
- Saved Staff Time: In addition to saved staff time on purchasing, these items will come to you fully cataloged and processed, ready to fulfill patron requests.
- Convenience: Titles are delivered to you ready to circulate, while SHARE will manage contracts, cataloging, and shipping.
- Saved Space: When the books are no longer needed to fill holds, they can be returned to SHARE, leaving space for newer, more in-demand titles.
FAQ
- Will the books fulfill holds to everyone in the consortium? For the first two months, the books will be considered “new” and will only be available to your patrons. You can also decide to have no holds to support a "lucky day" collection.
- When do the books need to be returned? They need to be returned either when they are no longer needed/weeded or if you discontinue participation in the program. There are no other deadlines; you can keep them as long as you would like.
- Can I select my own titles? Yes! We now have a premium plan where you can choose your own titles!
- Should I add my library’s property stamp? No, they will have an insert with your library’s information, so please do not make any permanent changes to the book.
- What if I want more than 10 books per month? You can opt to participate even more, with multiple subscriptions! Also, your library will receive a variety of titles, not an exact duplicate of the same A List/B List titles, providing more variety and value for your money.
- How much does this program cost? The program has two levels. In FY2027, the small plan costs $1,314 for 5 books a month. The large plan costs $2,628 for 10 books a month. The cost-per-item for a fully cataloged, fully processed, best-selling book is $21.90. You can keep it as long as you like or return it to SHARE when the demand has died down. *NEW* SHAREables has a new premium plan! The library can select their own titles, including large print, or request only the hottest titles, also for $2,628. The library will receive 12 "allowances" per month that can be spent however they choose, including large print!
- What is an allowance? The number of allowances are based on the publisher's list price. Most books are one allowance, while others are two or even sometimes three. In the premium plan, the price is the same, but there is a lot more flexibility. The library could choose to purchase more of the hottest bestsellers or large print (sometimes for more allowances) or get up to twelve books per month that are only one allowance. You choose to utilize the plan so that it works for your library!
- When does this program start? The program will run on an annual basis, July - June, with new enrollments accepted in the spring.

What SHARE Members Think
We are very happy with the program and it came at just the right time for us. Our adult materials acquisition librarian retired a year or so ago and our assistant circulation supervisor stepped in to fill the job. Our large print books are on standing order as well as Christian fiction and some best-selling authors. The gap is in regular fiction and nonfiction. Our patrons don't check out a lot of non-fiction but they do like to see regular fiction on the new shelves. The McNaughton Book Leasing program helps us fill out that collection; and my processing staff loves that the books come to us pretty much shelf ready.

I am going to just state that I love this program. These titles are promptly displayed on the Information Desk here at Rend Lake College. I just finished speaking with a nursing student, who was very excited to see the display and learn that we are getting some of the hottest material published. She looks forward to the semester end and getting a chance to enjoy some of the titles.
