Ellen Popit: Good afternoon, everyone! It's a beautiful day in DuQuoin!
Ellen Popit: We're busy gearing up for Member Day and the upcoming "Library State of Mind" Conference at our offices. What's on your minds?
Stephanie Dennis: Ellen my question right now is what about the application for the Per Capita Grant? Do you know when it will be available?
Ellen Popit: Good question, Stephanie. To my knowledge it's not "live" yet on the ISL website, but the due date is not until January 15th. Let me see if I can ask our colleagues at the State Library when you can expect to see that.
Kim: Hi. With all the chat on the exchange about taking Dec. 26 as a holiday, if we do that do we have to post in the paper ?
Kathy Goleman Divernon Township Library: I spoke with Jeanne Urbanik at the State Library yesterday and it is supposed to be available any day soon
Stephanie Dennis: It was posted that it would be online October 1. I realize it is not due til Jan but that is when I also have to start my Annual report due to my fiscal year. I am just trying to stay ahead of the game!!
Ellen Popit: Thanks, Kathy! We'll certainly post that in our Announce List and the MFT when it goes live.

Debbie Aggertt: Hi Ellen. This is Debbie Aggertt at the ISL. The Per Capita application is not up live yet, but will be soon. Please stay tuned to the ISL eNews for when it is posted.
Ellen Popit: Thanks, Debbie! I was also going to remind people that the Edge Assessment component does need to be completed as part of the Area and Per Capita grant application.
Debbie Aggertt: Yes it does. If anyone has any questions for me, I would be glad to answer them about the Edge.

Debbie Aggertt: Yes the Edge is the Technology part of the Per Capita Grant. All parts are due 1/15/16. I did a 20 minute webinar (Edge Success 1,2,3!). It was in the IHLS newsletter, in ISL eNews and posted to the Edge Resource page.
Betty-Galatia: I took the Edge asessment before the May 1 deadline. Will I have to retake it?
Kathy Goleman Divernon Township Library: Thanks Debbie! I'm like Stephanie just trying to stay ahead of the game!
Debbie Aggertt: No. You had the option of taking the Edge Assement in 2015 or 2016 and that will count towards the 1/15/16 technical requirement. Now if you have taken the Edge, have you engaged in one of the training webinars, worked on an Action Plan or used the toolkit? You have the option to do all of those. And I encourage you to do so.

Betty-Galatia: No, I haven't , but guess that will be my next step.
Debbie Aggertt: Betty, if you need any help with the engagement part of the Edge, please do not hesitate to contact me. Libraries who complete the Edge and go on to further engagement, see amazing results for their library and community. We are working on some of those success stories for Illinois.
Betty-Galatia: Thanks, I will keep that in mind.
Stephanie Dennis: Debbie-I did the assessment in 2014 and participated in two of the workshops. Do I need to do any of those again?
Debbie Aggertt: Stephanie if you completed the assessment, you meet the Technical requirement for the Per Capita Grant due 1/15/16. And congratulations on taking the workshops! All the workshops are open to all staff and trustees after you have inputted your library data.
Ellen Popit: Here's the entry about the Edge Assessment in our last Moveing Forward Together: The Edge Assessment is a requirement for the 2016 Public Library Per Capita Grant. The Edge webinar on September 15 was recorded. The webinar is a quick 20-minute presentation to get all libraries started. The Per Capita Grant is due January 15, 2016. Susan Edwardsville: I r4eceived a letter from Samantha Becker from the EDGE support team. She said that since I completed the assessment in August of 2014, and that that would server for what the State Library wants for the per capita.
Debbie Aggertt: Yes that is correct.
Ellen Popit: Kim, I think that if you close on the 26th, notice in the paper would be considerate for your patrons, I don't believe it is a requirement in the sense that posting notice of a board meeting would be.
Stephanie Dennis: We try to post our holiday hours in the library for patrons a few days ahead of time also.
Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: If we are closed on a day that's not already scheduled, then we post signs, put it on the website and our Facebook page. Everyone thinks we're open on days we're closed anyway.
Jacqueline Allen--Melvin PL: We are currently participating in a wonderful program--having our yearbooks digitized at no cost (we have 80 in our collection) and returned to us along with a set of DVD copies of the books. It's the OCI Yearbook Project out of Oklahoma and if anyone wants information about it I'd be glad to share that.

Diana Donahoo Centralia RLD: We are also having our collection of yearbooks digitized through OCI. When checking with the high school we found out we can't go any later than 1988 due to copyright issues.

Ellen Popit: Switching it up a bit, we're working on some advocacy messages to share with our local legislators regarding the budget impasse, so please keep a watchful eye on Moving Forward Together and the Announce List.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Definitley seeing the impact on Childcare funding here too. We were having an I-Cash presentation yesterday and the presenter said that she had been called to a meeting for staff of the Treasure's office to discuss "re-arranging" offices.
Kristina Benson-Du Quoin: I am worried about our community college extension center that hosts our GED classes.
Ellen Popit: One thread of discussion that I've heard often recently centers around the importance of library awareness and involvement in our community activities outside our four walls.
Debbie Aggertt: Excuse me for tooting my own horn, but when you complete the Edge Assessment you will get access to the toolkit. In the toolkit is a customizable power point template and a section to creat customized flyers for different groups citing the importnace and need for your library.
Susan-Sparta: I was at the Chamber of Commerce meeting just before this chat. There's great consternation in our whole community over the World Shooting Complex closure. Thankfully, our transit system will again be in operation beginning tomorrow after 2 months of no funding.
Ellen Popit: Deb makes a good point of the tools we have at our fingertips to reach out to people.
Susan-Sparta: That's good news, Debbie--and extra incentive for getting the Edge completed!
Debbie Aggertt: As part of the Per Capita Grant, every library will input their data. Engaging in the program and using the tools is up to you. As Ellen said use what you have available. I am here to help you all I can. I want every library to succeed and get all the support they can.
