Key: IHLS  Library

Joan Bauer: Good Afternoon - we will start shortly -- Hope everyone has questions!

Joan Bauer: Hello all -- anyone with questions this rainy day?

Joan Bauer: Otherwise this will be a very boring hour and no one will learn anything

Edie Elliott: We have a couple of cataloging workdays coming up, for whoever is interested: Thursday, January 7 at IHLS Edwardsville, and Wednesday, January 20, at Mascoutah Public Library.

Sherman PLD Anita & Dawn: Would anyone be intersted in attending a Searching and Barcoding class at Sherman Public in the late afternoon or evening?

Joan Bauer: We will also be having one in Rochester area in middle of January - will post day as soon as known .

Terri Rogers--Centralia Regional Library District: I have been doing clean-up work in our large print holdings (adding our LPT F prefix), but I have noticed that many of the bib records for these holdings are missing the gmd [text (large print)]. I have been adding these to the bib records immediately following the title. Is this correct for me to be doing?

Joan Bauer: Anita -- we could do an adobe meeting for late afternoon. Something we are wanting to try out -- been meaning to give you a call.

Joan Bauer: Terri - are they large print bibs, then yes. Please double check to make sure that bib is for Large print as we had a rash of incorrect merges this past summer.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: When is the next Bib Services committee meeting?

Terri Rogers--Centralia Regional Library District: Yes, I have been making sure that they are large print bibs, Joan...most of them have publication dates of 2007. Kind of odd...

Sherman PLD Anita & Dawn: Going through a box of donations to see if we could use any and found that the ISBN number in Springfield Entertainment : a Pictorial History brought up Decatur Entertainment. Control # are 1815327 & 1738147

Joan Bauer: January 15 is the next Bib Services committee meeting

Edie Elliott: Esther, the next Bib and Cataloging standards committee meeting is Friday, January 15

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Okay, thanks! I know the Circ committee was asked for some input on the GMD issue and I forgot to forward the draft minutes along to Bobbi.

Sherman PLD Anita & Dawn: Joan, we would be happy to host an adobe meeting. Also need one for one of our staff members who is learning barcoding and needs the SHARE class. It is really difficult for our part-time staff who usually have other employment to get to training sessions during the day. Thought we might be able to have a class in the evening or late afternoon

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Joan, I have a question about serials.

Joan Bauer: Anita/Dawn - The bib for the Springfield Entertainment doesn't have the 020 in the record. I can add if you verify it is correct.

Joan Bauer: Yes, April?

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: It may be a silly one, but I'm not sure how to delete magazine issues when they have been marked Routed- I get an error telling me that they cannot be deleted.

Edie Elliott: It's the same publisher in both records, and sometimes publishers reuse ISBNs, although they aren't supposed to.

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: We have weeded our collection pretty severly, and it would be nice to only show those pubs that we are still getting/keeping.

Edie Elliott: April, I'd have to check on that--I've never come up against that. Is there a place in the issue record where it has shows a status of Routed?

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Yes- and I can't go in and mark it as anything else. I'm not sure why only some are marked routed, either- I check them all in the same way! :)

Edie Elliott: April, can you give me a couple of examples so I can take a look at them? You can email them to me--eelliott@illinoisheartland.org

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Sure thing- thank you, Edie!

Julia Ellis, Six Mile RLD: I was doing gift paperbacks and I noticed that new 2015 Harlequin-- larger prints --have "D" in the Form fixed field. According to Best practices this should be removed. This is still correct practice, right?

Edie Elliott: Julia, yes, the code in the Form fixed field should be deleted in larger print records in Polaris (not in OCLC)

Joan Bauer: April - just checked on a few. Do they not allow you to delete issues at all or just prompt that it is a routed issue?

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: It is a problem with individual issues, not all issues.

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: So I can delete some of them, but some are 'stuck'.

Joan Bauer: April - Do they say "returned" or still "routed" if you view from the Check in screen?

Amanda Endicott @ Edwardsville Public Library: Out of plain old curiousity, what does Routed mean?

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: They still show routed.

Edie Elliott: Amanda, it's possible in the serials module to print a route list for a serial if it's something that is being sent around for staff to read. I don't know how many are using that feature.

Amanda Endicott @ Edwardsville Public Library: Thanks Edie!

Edie Elliott: April, are you actually routing some serials, or did they get marked that way accidentally?

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Most have a routing list. But within the same serial, some will be marked routed and some will not. Even though I check-in the same for each one.

Edie Elliott: April, looking at the Polaris help for serials, you can go to the item record for the particular issue and check it in, and that should change the issue status from Routed to Returned and then you should be able to delete the issue. It says can also go to the Notes view in the serials issue record and change the status there. I don't have any firsthand knowledge, you understand, I'm just reading the Polaris help!

Amanda Endicott @ Edwardsville Public Library: We've never used it so I obviously don't understand how it works very well. Do you actually check it out and in along the Routed list? and can you clear Routed by manually checking it out and in to the last person on the list?

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: I will try that- thanks!

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Ok, I tried that and it tells me I cannot check it in because it is already checked-in. I also can't un-check it in because it is routed.

Julia Ellis, Six Mile RLD: Could she put them in a record set? Sometimes, it seems easier to delete from a record set.

Edie Elliott: April, which way did you try it--from the item record or the serial issue record?

Edie Elliott: Julia, I'm not sure if the record set would work any better--I don't really know enough about routing. It sounds like it creates an unbreakable link, which would have to be cleared before it can be deleted. Just a guess on my part.

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: From the serials.

Joan Bauer: April - let us search a bit on this. It has to do that some obviously were linked to a routing list and in "routed" status.

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Ok- I will send you a few titles that are having the problem.

Edie Elliott: Thanks, April!

Julia Ellis, Six Mile RLD: Could it be a "permissions" issue within the module? Breakable links/unbreakable links and all.

Edie Elliott: Julia, I don't think it has to do with permissions. I think it has to do with the Routed status in the issue record.

Joan Bauer: April - I searched Polaris supportal and couldn't find exactly what I needed, so I submitted a ticket with our Rep asking how to change status of routed. I'll let you know when I heart something

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Thank you very much. I was worried I was doing something wrong!

Joan Bauer: So no one else have any questions?

Joan Bauer: Or just too tired of all this rain

Edie Elliott: At least it's not ice!

Joan Bauer: Oh, bite your tongue!

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Two days before Christmas and were under a tornado watch and just had a severe thunderstorm warning w/ trees down and power out. Crazy!

Joan Bauer: Chris Janvrin said that 5 inches of rain over the next several days -- 1 inch of rain equals 4-6 inches of snow. Luck is on our side.

Joan Bauer: Stay safe Esther

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Thanks--the worst seems to have passed for now (knocking on wood!)

Sherman PLD Anita & Dawn: Joan, The ISBN for the Springfield Entertainment : A Pictorial History on the inside dust jacket is 0943963567 and on the verso 0943963559

Joan Bauer: Okay Anita/Dawn. Will check on that.

Joan Bauer: If no one has any other questions, then every enjoy the rest of the day. Wishing everyone a joyous new year! January 12 for Cat Training Session

Edie Elliott: Thanks for a good chat session, everyone! Happy holidays!

April Becker, Hanson Professional Services: Thank you- Happy Holidays!!

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Thanks!!

Sherman PLD Anita & Dawn: Happy Holidays to all.

Amanda Endicott @ Edwardsville Public Library: Thanks!

Jennifer Rhoades - Forsyth Public Library: Thank you

Terri Rogers--Centralia Regional Library District: Thanks....and Happy Holidays!

Julia Ellis, Six Mile RLD: Thank you.
