Troy Brown: (9/14/2016 12:59) Good afternoon everyone. We'll be starting in a couple of minutes. Hopefully Brant will be joining us soon as well. Brandon is on the road today to Champaign, so we'll have to figure out the answers on our own. :)

Troy Brown: (13:03) Hello again! Brant and I have been playing with the new IOS 10 on the iPhone over lunch. It's got a lot of features in it. Kinda fun.

Troy Brown: (13:03) If anyone has any questions, please post them because we don't really have an agenda today

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:05) Will Polaris start using another internet browser since microsoft explorer is being phased out?

Troy Brown: (13:06) That's a good question.

Troy Brown: (13:07) The way we've implemented running Polaris is through RDP and that is what uses IE.

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:07) whats RDP?

Troy Brown: (13:07) It actually works on Chrome and Firefox now, but it downloads a file that you have to run. IE still runs it the most seamlessly.

Troy Brown: (13:07) Remote Destop Protocol

Don Pippin, Philo: (13:08) While working on bibliographic records today I have been getting a lot of error messages and having to try 2 and 3 times to get a record to come up for editing. I have not noticed this before. Is there a problem that all libraries are having or could it just be mine?

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:08) thanks. i know i lost all credibility with that last quesiton.

Troy Brown: (13:08) I don't think IE will go away anytime soon. It's a solid browser.

Troy Brown: (13:08) not at all, April.

Don Pippin, Philo: (13:09) will Overdrive e-books have a link in Polaris like 3M for checking out?

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:09) We have been having that issue as well. Along with some disconnections.

Troy Brown: (13:09) We are monitoring some ongoing performance issues. We have a plan that we hope to implement next week that will (hopefully) make that better. But everythign we try, is a "change it and wait 2 days to see if it helps"

Don Pippin, Philo: (13:10) OK

Troy Brown: (13:10) As for Overdrive, that's more a question for Bib Services, but it will never be as integrated as the 3M material.

Don Pippin, Philo: (13:11) Is there a short answer as to why not?

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:11) Actually, there is an SHARE e-resource committee and part of their role is to determine which eresources are put into the SHARE database.

Troy Brown: (13:12) 3M uses Polaris API to talk to Polaris at a much deeper level. It required a lot of custom programming from 3M. Overdrive has told Polaris they aren't going to put in that effort.

Don Pippin, Philo: (13:12) Ok, that helps. thanks

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:14) Which is why 2 of the Overdrive consortia have moved our titles to 3M. Overdrive isn't very willing to work with their customers. We've been asking to merge the Overdrive collections and they said no--so we moved to 3M.

Troy Brown: (13:15) I understand some people like the Overdrive experience better, but 3M is 1000% better to work with and they are constantly listening to us on what to improve.

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:15) Overdrive has been easier to use for audio book users.

Brant Wingerter: (13:16) @Don: Are the error messages you're seeing in the PAC view of the Bib Record?

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:17) Brant--I've been getting those. So have a couple of my staff. I've sent Joan a couple of screen shots of the error.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:18) The PAC view won't load, but you can get to the MARC view.

Don Pippin, Philo: (13:19) @Brant, it is the PAC view that won't come up and will give me an error message.

Troy Brown: (13:19) I did have to restart the PAC service early this morning. I'm going to schedule a restart of that server tonight. Hopefully it helps.

Troy Brown: (13:20) I hate to do it during the day if I can avoid it. But it would only be down about 1 minute

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:20) I had it happening yesterday too, but we lost power and I couldn't sent Joan the message.

Troy Brown: (13:21) She would probably just send them on to us in that case.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:21) She talked like she was going to refer some errors we've been getting in cataloging and barcoding

Troy Brown: (13:23) Those may have been different errors then. She's a smart cookie. :)

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:24) Those earlier ones were related to the server being busy--not sure on this new error.

Troy Brown: (13:25) The server busy stuff is what we're hoping to fix next week. It's going to take all night to implement tho.

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:26) has the upgrads made over july 4 been effective?

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:26) On the PAC view error--I sometimes get a "runtime error"

Troy Brown: (13:27) Yes, we were seeing those this morning.

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:28) good

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:28) to know

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:34) I have to say that Troy, you did a great job finding Zoom for online meetings. I love it! We were experimenting and I've used it on my PC, phone and tablet.

Troy Brown: (13:35) Thanks, Esther. It's by far the easiest to connect to as a participant, and works on more devices than anyone else.

Troy Brown: (13:35) Anyone can try it. Go to www.zoom.us and sign up. 40 minute minutes of 50 people or less are free.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:35) It is super easy!!

Troy Brown: (13:35) 40 minute meetings...

Troy Brown: (13:36) Of course we are here an in adobe connect room. It's biggest competitor. We probably just triggered from red flags.

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:37) will be switching all meetings and chat to Zoom?

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:38) Haha! We had talked about that--we decided that since the chats can be archived, that Adobe would still work best. I know there have been several times that I've gone back to the transcript for information.

Troy Brown: (13:38) For chatting like this, adobe is better. but that's the only time.

Troy Brown: (13:39) We also just tested Zoom with the State Library's VTEL room. It connected and worked great.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:40) YAY!

Troy Brown: (13:44) We are getting a few more reports of the PAC issues that you've described. I'm considering rebooting the server in a couple minutes. Like I said it will only be down for 1 minute, so most people may not even notice. Trying to decide the best timing.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:45) You may want to wait until after 3, then schools will be our.

Troy Brown: (13:46) Do a lot of kids come to the library after they get out of school?

Kathy Goleman - Divernon Township Library: (13:46) yes we have quite a few

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:47) We don't since the new high school opened--it's across town now.

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:47) is it alwasys the same server giving problems?

Troy Brown: (13:47) Nope.

April Jensen Lincoln Public Library: (13:47) in Lincoln we do.

Troy Brown: (13:47) But all the server connect back to the same database.

Troy Brown: (13:48) Brant, do you still have pizza in there?

Brant Wingerter: (13:48) @Troy: Yes.

Troy Brown: (13:48) :) Tuna salad isn't cutting it today

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:49) So are you guys settling in at the new offices in Carbondale?

Troy Brown: (13:51) Yes we are. It feels like a real office!

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:51) I heard that some of you actually have windows!

Troy Brown: (13:52) shhh

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:52) Lol!

Troy Brown: (13:53) Brant just brought me some pizza. I'm better now.

Troy Brown: (13:55) Well I think we're going to go look at these PAC errors closer. Let's call it quits for the day. The Apple Festival is in Murphysboro this weekend. I expect to see you all there.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: (13:56) Sorry--going to be in Wentzville, MO for the St Louis area Ren Faire! Hope you have fun!!

Don Pippin, Philo: (13:57) Sorry, will be at U of I home game.

Troy Brown: (13:57) weak excuses...

Kay Burrous South Macon 2: (13:58) Thanks.

Christina Hayes- Hartford Public Library: (13:58) Thanks!
