Polaris System Upgrade July 4

Home > Articles > Polaris System Upgrade July 4

Hello everyone,

This Monday, July 4, we are going to perform a pretty major upgrade to the Polaris server environment.  I know this is short notice, and we didn’t think that Monday was going to work out, but the stars, planets, and other space aliens aligned and we are taking advantage of all the libraries being closed to minimize the inconvenience to you.

IHLS IT staff and Polaris will begin work on Sunday evening.  We will move the current Polaris environment to the latest Windows Server and Microsoft SQL versions.  We are not upgrading the Polaris software.  No new functionality in Polaris will be introduced.  This upgrade is purely on the operating system side and the management side.  However because of the nature of the upgrade it will take ALL DAY on Monday to complete and test.

What you will notice:

A slightly different border around the edge of the Polaris windows.  (More of a Windows 10 feel)
An updated start.illinoisheartland.org screen.
There will be a dropdown box to select whether you are “Library Staff” or “IHLS Staff".  The default is “Library Staff".
You will only need to put in the username and password.  Don’t include any IHLS\ or @ihls.local.  The new part will be filled in automatically.  (It should look like @share.ihls.lcl, in case you’re curious though.)
Your password will be reset and you must set a new password before you can login to Polaris.
See Changing your password after the July 4th maintenance for instructions and more information

That’s it.  If everything goes right, only the start screen will have anything different about it.  We are making a lot of changes on the backend, so unfortunately if there are problems, it will probably affect everyone.  We will keep you posted!  As always the http://share.illinoisheartland.org status page will be updated if there are issues.

Again, I’m very sorry for the short notice.
