this is what the tip was - If you mark an item lost, be sure to mark it non-holdable, as well. However, a couple of people who are quite knowledgeable about the inner working of Polaris (thank you Traci and Donna!) said that it was not an accurate tip. If you attempt to place a hold on an item that is lost, missing, claims never had, claims returned, unavailable, or withdrawn, you will get a message on the staff side of Polaris, as well as on the PAC, that says the item is not available for a hold. You can override the hold, but there really is no reason to do that, since, most likely, you will never get the item.

We have received word from two SHARE members that you all need to be aware of. First, East St. Louis Community College has requested that we turn off their holds, as they anticipate closing their library due to the state budget crisis.

Kaskaskia College has also asked for their holds to be turned off. They are dealing with an asbestos issue, and the library will be closed for a period of time as that problem is resolved.

The winners of the photo contest that was introduced last week are: Edwardsville Public Library; Marissa Public Library; Nashville Public Library; Rochester Public Library; St. Joseph Township-Swearingin Memorial Library; Maryville Public Library; Mississippi Valley Public Library District; Oakwood Public Library; Millstadt Public Library; and Decatur Public Library. Be sure to check out the rotating pictures on the SHARE website to see what some of our SHARE libraries are doing at their library programs.

But the contest isn’t over yet! Keep sending pictures of your library events to Chris Dawdy to win one roll of restick receipt paper. Brant will be changing the pictures at regular intervals, so that you can show off what you’ve been doing at your library, and everyone can get new ideas.

Effective immediately, there will only be THREE transit slips that will be used for Delivery within IHLS. The first is the transit slip generated by Polaris. The second is the IHLS transit slip found on the IHLS website. And the third is the ILDS transit slip, which can also be found on the IHLS website.

Effective immediately, the IHLS transit slip will be used to send items to SHARE cataloging staff for cataloging purposes.

There have been a couple of minor changes to the IHLS transit slip, including removing the date field, and moving the title field to the bottom of the slip. Also, the PDF file is now fillable. Keep in mind that you will have to download the file to use the fillable feature. For libraries that send many items in to SHARE for cataloging, you may feel free to use the pdf fillable form--you can type in the To and From fields, and make copies to attach to your items. Any information you would like to send to the cataloging staff can be placed inside the item.

The ILDS transit slip will still be used to send items to CMC (attention Vince Andrzejewski), at the IHLS Edwardsville office.
