FY2017 SHARE Fees
In these crazy economic times, the SHARE Finance/Policy Committee thought it was very significant when Adrienne Elam, IHLS’ Chief Financial Officer, reported that 98% of the SHARE fees were paid on time this year. They wanted to say thank you to all of the SHARE members for making that happen, since it’s what keeps us going as an organization, for the benefit of everyone’s patrons. So . . . THANK YOU
RDA’s coming!
Do you remember that the SHARE member libraries voted to approve the SHARE Bibliographic and Cataloging Committee’s recommendation to change to RDA (Resource Description and Access) cataloging rules effective July 1? This is a significant change, of course, since catalogers have been using the AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules) for a great many years. What you all need to remember, though, is that this change does not just impact catalogers. It could change how patrons and staff search the PAC, for example.
Joan Bauer, SHARE Manager for Bibliographic Services, and Edie Elliott, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager, presented an informational session on the impact of RDA at last month’s IHLS Member Day. In order to reach a wider audience, their presentation is now available on the SHARE website, here.
You can find the ILL Violation Report form on the SHARE website at https://share.illinoisheartland.org/support/forms/543. Please use this form to report any concerns you have about ILL violations, such as overriding holds, overriding renewal limits, and so on. If requested, the SHARE Director will contact the appropriate library staff to resolve the issue. Even if you don’t want SHARE staff to intervene, this report allows SHARE staff to gather data that tells us if we need to provide additional training and support at specific libraries, so please use it!
We currently have 103 libraries on the list of Libraries That Allow Longer Loan Periods, as posted on the SHARE website, at https://share.illinoisheartland.org/circulation/libraries-allow-longer-loan-periods. It’s never too late to add another one! Please email Chris Dawdy (cdawdy@illinoisheartland.org) or Brant Wingerter (bwingerter@illinoisheartland.org) if your library would like to be added to the list.
In order for our shared system to run efficiently and effectively, it is important that libraries:
- Run your NOTICES at least weekly, though daily would be even better.
- Check your REQUEST LIST every day your library is open.
- Check your UNCLAIMED REQUEST LIST every day your library is open.
