Chris Dawdy: Good afternoon!

Shawn- Elwood Township: Good Afternoon :D

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): good afternoon

Susan Colbert - Sparta Public Library: Hello

Johnnie Halstead Rick Warren Library: Good Afternoon!

Shawn- Elwood Township: Is this our last director's chat with you, Chris? :(

Chris Dawdy: Nope! I'm here until September 1, so we've got one more!

Chris Dawdy: It does look like we have a new director with us today! Hi Steven Ward from Taylorville! How's your first week going?

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): going very well, thank you, glad to be with you all!

Shawn- Elwood Township: Hi, Steven. Welcome!

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): Hello :)

Chris Dawdy: I think our big news this week is that we started our new fiscal year, which means our annual report is due to the Illinois State Library in a month. How about the rest of you?

Susan Colbert - Sparta Public Library: Our IPLAR was due May 30th, so thankfully it is finished and submitted!

Gary, Worden PLD: Our's is due September 1st.

Shawn- Elwood Township: We are a township library. I turned mine in by May 31. Whew! It's over!

Diana-Centralia RLD: We started our new year July 1 also. Working on the budget for the board to approve at their July meeting. Our IPLAR is due Sep 1.

Johnnie Halstead Rick Warren Library: Mine is due Sept 1st also. Gotta get to work on it.

janeth: As a city library ours was due June 30th. Done and done for another year!

Ellen Popit: Sorry to be late, computer problems!

Gary, Worden PLD: Is there anything new in IPLAR this year that we should be aware of?

Chris Dawdy: Uh oh! Good thing you have IT guys near you!

Ellen Popit: Gary, I don't think there are any BIG changes. Let me look at an e-mail from ISL and I might have some more information.

Ellen Popit: If you've received an reminder from the State Library regarding your IPLAR, it will outline the changes. But, they are small. Also, SHARE members should remember that Traci Edwards is happy to help with manyh of the reports.

Chris Dawdy: While Ellen is looking, I have a question for everyone. As Shawn alluded to, my last day as SHARE Director is going to be September 1. After that, I'm going to be working from home about one day a week writing grants for IHLS. The question is, what do we need money for?

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Traci has set up a report that is set to run automatically to gather the info we need for the IPLAR and emails that to us. I think that she has it set up for all libraries.

Diana-Centralia RLD: I received email with IPLAR reports on Jul 1 from SHARE notifications.

Ellen Popit: The e-mail with the reminder and changes would come from Pat Burg (pburg@ilsos.net) at the Illinois State Library.

Ellen Popit: I have a copy if anyone would like it individually. If I cut and paste here, I'm afraid it will look kind of wonky.

Diana-Centralia RLD: Check around July 3 for Pat's email.

Johnnie Halstead Rick Warren Library: I would like a copy Ellen if you don't mind. Thank you!

Ellen Popit: No problem!

Ellen Popit: So, back to Chris's question.....what would be helpful grants for IHLS and out libraries?

Ellen Popit: Three of us (Diana, Johnnie and I) missed the June chat because of Directors' U. I had a great week, how about you?

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: I think that working to expand access to Cloud Library for those small libraries would be a good starting point. Maybe a 50/50 match to help with cost.

Diana-Centralia RLD: It was awesome, the workshops and the networking .

Shawn- Elwood Township: That is a good suggestion, Esther!

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: I know we get patrons from smaller libraries ask if they can buy a card at our library so they can access ebooks. I always encourage them to talk to their home library and offer the fee they can't pay us to their own library.

Diana-Centralia RLD: I have already given my board notice that they are going to hear a lot of "At DU..." and might be sorry they let me go! :)

Ellen Popit: That's a good thing!

Johnnie Halstead Rick Warren Library: I had a WONDERFUL week! So educational but mind boggling. Still trying to get some of the things done that I learned. You were all great in your teaching us. Love the association. Went library hopping on the way home, went to Litchfield to see the cat and to Lebanon. GREAT times, will always remember!

Ellen Popit: Love the library hopping----great way to learn new things and I'm sure that Sara was delighted to see you! Lebanon will be getting a new library in the near future. They've purchased a building (I believe), but I'm not entirely sure where the project currently stands.

Johnnie Halstead Rick Warren Library: Didn't get to see Sara but saw one of her helpers. Sara had called in that she was back but didn't come in, I'm assuming she was as tired as I was. Yes I can't remember the Lebanon's directors name but she was getting ready to retire. Real sweet lady, I'm sure they will miss her.

Ellen Popit: June was certainly a busy month for so many folks!

Ellen Popit: Did any of you have a chance to read Municipal Minute this morning? You can subscrite to Municipal Minute at: http://municipalminute.ancelglink.com/

Ellen Popit: This morning's post had to do with public bodies, social media and how we are to handle comments. Very helpful.

Diana-Centralia RLD: I've gotten a lot of good info from Municipal Minute.

Shawn- Elwood Township: When were the member fees due? I think I had seen something in a e-letter stating 98% were paid. I must be in the 2%? lol I don't have a bill yet. Is there a different billing cycle, or am I just late?

Chris Dawdy: That was for last year, Shawn. The FY18 invoices will be sent out in the next couple of weeks, and, if you pay annually or quarterly, the first payment is not due until October.

Chris Dawdy: In other news, I just checked on the status of a state budget. We still don't have one.

Shawn- Elwood Township: Oh good! Thank you, Chris. I was starting to worry. I am paid for last year, what a relief!

Ellen Popit: For those of you who don't currently use it, Municipal Minute regularly delivered e-mail from Julie Tappendorf, an attorney with the Ancel Glink law firm that deals with legal issues faced by public bodies in Illinois. There is no charge to receive it.

Ellen Popit, IHSL: To Chris and all, I just looked that up, as well. We might have one on Thursday!

Diana-Centralia RLD: House didn't have a quorum today so had to adjourn.

Ellen Popit, IHSL: I couldn't figure out why they were waiting until Thursday. Thanks, Diana!

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: This is a little off subject, but the next time we have a Members Matter meeting, can we make sure that it's not scheduled at the same time as a Cataloger's training?

Chris Dawdy: Good idea, Esther! We'll pass that message along.

Ellen Popit, IHSL: We can, Esther. I think this next one will make a full cycle and then I'm sure we'll regroup and see what needs to be tweaked. They've worked really well from out standpoint, but we still haven't managed to get participation from the schools.

Ellen Popit, IHSL: Don't worry about off topic, that's what these chats are meant for!

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Ellen--I've really enjoyed them and that's why I bring it up. I have to have the Cat training hours, but want to attend Members matter.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: And many may not realize it, but there are major changes in the Cataloging world for SHARE as of July 1, so we are all trying to get up to speed on the new stuff and changes.

Ellen Popit, IHSL: Esther, we obviously didn't catch that or we could have thought that through. Thanks loads for pointing it out!

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: Always glad to help. ;)

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): any suggestions for someone new to cataloging, are there beginners workshops? I need to learn simply for oversight purposes..

Chris Dawdy: Steven, have you looked at the SHARE website yet? https://share.illinoisheartland.org/ There's a wealth of information there, including some training recordings.

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: You can check out the Catologing section on the SHARE website. Also, L2 (http://librarylearning.info/) list all the trainings coming up.

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): great, thanks, I wasn't sure if most of the L2 sessions required some previous knowledge or experience

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): training recordings would be helpful too

Chris Dawdy: Have you used Polaris before, Steven?

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): i have not, I am used to Voyager, have only worked in academics to this point

Chris Dawdy: Sounds like Ellen and I need to schedule a time to come visit you! It's one of the jobs we do, you see. Visit new library directors.

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): that would be great, I appreciate the help and having a great resource available

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD: You will need to have some basic cataloging training to get started, but there are a lot of great cataloging staff to help out.

Chris Dawdy: It's now 2:00, so our hour is up. Hope to see lots of you at Members Matter next week--whether it's at the Decatur Public Library or by Zoom!

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): great, thanks, i will look for information online through the Heartland website and beyond

Steven Ward (Taylorville Public): thanks! it was great to meet everyone :)

Johnnie Halstead Rick Warren Library: Great seeing you all. I got kinda busy and I'm here by myself . See ya next time

Ellen Popit, IHSL: See you then!
