Set vs. individual records for multipart audiovisual material

Home > Policies and Procedures > Set vs. individual records for multipart audiovisual material

For multipart audiovisual material (i.e., DVDs and audiobooks), attach your holding to the appropriate set or individual record based on how your library intends to circulate the item.

The number of discs in the 300 $a field of the bibliographic record MUST match the number of discs that you are circulating.

Dividing a set and circulating individual discs or groups of discs may require creation of a new bibliographic record.

Items are not allowed to circulate in multiple cases with only one barcode. Each separate case must have its own barcode and be individually cataloged.

Examples:

Use Set Record

Use matching individual or group records

Box set of entire TV series

Entire set will circulate as one item

Box set will be divided into seasons in separate cases with with their own barcodes

Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack

Entire pack will circulate as one item

Pack will be split, each disc individually cased and barcoded

Multidisc audiobooks

Entire set will circulate as one item

Set will be divided into groups of discs, each group in a separate case with their own barcodes
