Baseline policy statement for cataloging practices in SHARE

Home > Policies and Procedures > Baseline policy statement for cataloging practices in SHARE

Cataloging in SHARE will follow LC cataloging practice as much as possible, with local exceptions determined on an individual basis. Bibliographic records brought into the SHARE database must be full-level OCLC records, with the exception of acquisition records, records created locally according to SHARE bibliographic and cataloging standards (i.e. records for equipment and library-developed kits), and vendor records brought in by SHARE staff for the purposes of Cloud Library and the McNaughton Book Leasing Program. Vendor records from the McNaughton Book Leasing Program will be overlaid or merged with full-level OCLC records at the earliest possible time. SHARE cataloging policies will be subject to continual review and revision by the SHARE Bibliographic and Cataloging Standards Committee and the full membership.

As of July 1, 2017, all bibliographic records brought into the SHARE database must be cataloged using the Resource Description and Access (RDA) content standards.

SHARE cataloging policies will be subject to continual review and revision by the SHARE Bibliographic and Cataloging Standards Committee and the full membership.
