SIP2 Setup Instructions

Home > Support > Documentation > SIP2 Setup Instructions

SIP2 is a technology that allows remote authentication from 3rd party vendor products.  Some of the products currently in use by the SHARE Consortium of libraries are:

Circulation (Two-way) SIP2 programs:

  • 3M Self-Check Stations

  • RFID Check Stations

Patron Authentication (One-way) SIP2 Programs:

  • Comprise Technologies, "Smart Access Manager" (SAM)

  • Envisionware, "PC Reservation"

  • Envisionware, "LPT:One"

  • Overdrive Recorded Books

  • Freegal

  • Baker & Taylor, "Axis 360"

  • and others...

If you use a software package, or subscribe to a vendor, that uses SIP2 and isn't on the above list, it will probably work just fine without additional setup.

Unlike previous vendors' implementation of SIP2, which often required a seperate SIP2 port for each vendor connection, Polaris' implementation has a single port for each library that multiple vendors can connect to.
