SHARE full-member libraries must elect one of two options each fiscal year: Cataloging Library or Barcoding Library.

Cataloging library

Barcoding library

  • Staff have the knowledge to search for bibliographic records in the SHARE database and add item/holding record to the matched bibliographic record.
  • Barcoding libraries must select one of two options each year:
    • Prepay libraries may send items not found in the SHARE database to the SHARE cataloging Center for a flat annual fee. Fees for Prepay libraries may be found on the SHARE Annual Membership Fees page.
    • Pay-As-You-Go libraries may send items not found in the SHARE database to their assigned SHARE Cataloging Center for a cost per item or use the Express Cataloging option (currently for books and audiobooks only).
  • The SHARE Bibliographic Services Training Contract must be completed and submitted to the Assistant SHARE Director before training. Forms can be emailed to jbaugh@illinoisheartland.org
  • Training Requirements for new barcoders

SHARE Cataloging Center

The SHARE Cataloging Centers provide cataloging for materials not found in the SHARE database. Items sent to a SHARE Cataloging Center will be charged $14/item. When items are being sent in for cataloging, all items must be:

  • Stamped/marked with identification for your library
  • Sent using the green cataloging transit labels. More transit labels can be requested using this form: Cataloging Transit Slip Request Form

Local authors, special collections, local history, and genealogy items may qualify for free CMC Cataloging. Please email cmc@illinoisheartland.org with any questions.

Deleted Item Records are purged on the last day of the month.
