Records for the same item, with and without accompanying material

Home > Policies and Procedures > Records for the same item, with and without accompanying material

An item with substantive accompanying material should be cataloged on a separate record from the same item that does not include the accompanying material. Records will not be merged in this instance. This is in accordance with OCLC’s policy on accompanying material.

Add the following edition statement in MARC tag 250 to indicate accompanying material is included. This will keep records from being merged in OCLC. This may be added to an existing edition statement, separated by a comma.

250 _ _$a[With accompanying material].
250 _ _$aSecond edition, [with accompanying material].

Delete MARC tag 006 and/or 007 as needed to generate the correct icon for the predominant format in the PAC. For example, in a record for a book with an accompanying DVD, delete the 006 and 007 fields pertaining to the DVD to prevent a format icon for the DVD from being generated.

Note: This is a local edit only. Do not delete MARC tag 006 or 007 from the OCLC master record.
